Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression

Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression & Traction

Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression

According to the Handbook of Clinical Neurology, 84% of adults will experience a back injury in their lifetime?  Many think that surgery is their only option.  In fact, surgery is needed in only a small number of cases.  Conservative treatment like nonsurgical spinal decompression can be used with great success!

What is Spinal Decompression?

Let’s start with what it can do.  The Journal of Physical Therapy Science published an article showing that spinal decompression and traction therapy both produced significant improvement in pain, disability, and ROM (straight leg raise) in patients who had a disc herniation

Nonsurgical spinal decompression or traction therapy is a treatment that can offer back pain relief by taking pressure off the neural elements of your spine.  Many different spinal conditions can benefit from this.  Common ones include:

  • Disc Bulges
  • Disc Herniation
  • Low Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Stenosis
  • Arthritis
  • Pinched Nerve
  • Sciatica

How Does It Work?

Spinal Decompression Therapy involves stretching the spine and reducing compression using a traction table or decompression device, with the goal of relieving back pain, neck pain, and/or leg pain.  We refer to this as nonsurgical spinal decompression because there is another form of spinal decompression that involves surgery to decrease spinal compression.

What Can Bodywise Do to Help?

Spinal decompression has been a part of our treatment program for the past 15 years.  This extensive experience has provided us with a distinct knowledge of when and how to use it.  Within the first few treatments, you should see improvement.  Used in conjunction with the many other therapies we offer, we provide a comprehensive nonsurgical approach to returning people to active life after a back injury.
